Coral Reef Targeted Research: Modeling Working Group
In order to effectively facilitate reef management, the Dynamic Decision Support Systems will focus on scenario-testing in support of decision-making by coral reef policy-makers, managers and stakeholders. Secondary benefits will include public information, education and the enhancement of scientific investigation.
The design strategy must be centered on supporting reef management. For a given reef system, the policy-makers, managers and stakeholders must be identified. Their needs must be accommodated as much as is feasible through assessments of needs and, where possible, through their involvement in the design process. The resource value of the reefs must be identified and be the focus of scenario-testing. The DDSSs will be made available over the Internet for stakeholder and public information, and will be incorporated into Web-based educational programs.
